Some Animals for the Grandkids

April 11, 2009 · 1 Comment

Jan had the week off, so we spent some time wandering around the area (mostly in Iowa). Didn’t get any really great pictures, but here are a bunch of animals that the grandkids should enjoy. First off, some from Hitchcock Nature Center.

This is a cedar waxwing:

And we think this is a bluebird:

These next are from DeSoto National Wildlife Refuge.

This is a woodpecker. Probably a yellow-bellied sapsucker:

Maybe a sandpiper:

A really bad pic of a deer:

And another not-so-great one of an owl:

The rest of these are from Blank Park Zoo in Des Moines, where we took Ryan and Sam yesterday:

Some kind of finch:

And another probable finch. I like this pic:

Lion:

Ryan says “I like the colorful birdie. That one with all sorts of colors. You know, with the yellow and the blue tummy and stuff.”

Sam says “My favorite picture was the one where the colorful birdies were. “
